SMILING DRAGONS

Smiling dragons are a closed species owned by MUTE Studio. Smiling dragons were created in the winter of 2017 and have been a consistantly growing community within the fandom known as furries.

What is a closed species?

A closed species such as smiling dragons means you cannot create your own, in order to own one yourself you will need to either purchase an adoptable design [a premade design put up for a certain price] or commission MUTE Studio for a custom design [see commissions for more information]. There is also the occassional Make Your Own slots that get sold where you can pay for the right to make your own smiling dragon to be approved by MUTE.

Lore of the species?

In the lore of smiling dragons the basic synopsis is that in the year xxxx, five creatures were created for an experiment with an unknown substance, the substance entered their bodies and caused what was called the 'Evolution meltdown'. In their rage of agony and pain they caused the building to be sealed shut with fire spreading and engulfing the building, killing all but one of them. Known in the future as MUTE, was the only survivor, trapped, he spend months living off of scraps, moaning his friends and trying to find a way to bring them back. Time carried on and he soon ran out if food, he resorted to cannibalism to survive, the trauma of his actions forced him into a mental state of distress, creating a manifestation of grief in hid mind... his inner voice, known as SOUND.

He managed to break free from the wrecked building and seeked both help and revenge, he became a commissioner of a young, odd scientist who helped him fix his pain, removing his broken wings and with using the dna of both MUTE and the claws of his past friends, the prototypes where created. They then went on to mix their dna to create all the main smiling dragons known to this day.

there is still a lot more pieces of the smiling dragon lore to be discovered... keep a close eye on certain art pieces and posts to learn more...

LORE

In the year X, there was a group of scientists working in a lab, working towards a goal to create some sort of vessel for spiritual beings known as remnant. This remnant is a mysterious energy that is thought to belong to
the other side of reality that occasionally finds its way into ours in the
form of an energy-like-substance.The lab was commissioned to create a project where this remnant could be encapsulated into a living vessel rather than a human. The lab commences the project known as ;753 where they created an anthropomorphic species which contained the DNA of various mammals mixed with an artificial DNA to boost their survival rate and be able to contain the power
of the remnant. The creatures had a special organ which was made to capsulate the remnant and had two large implanted tubes that connected to veins that enter this organ in which the remnant would enter through during the experiment.

There were five test subjects, they were numbered with no names and were grown until deemed strong enough to be tested on. Due to the risks of the experiment the lab was kept classified and hidden from the public and media, even some people who worked in this hidden lab did not know this experiment was about to commence. Once deemed they were ready for the experiment the day arose in which the subjects were taken into a large room with several lab workers, they were restricted by their hands, feet,  necks and torso to avoid anyone getting hurt if the experiment went  wrong, this was their fifth experiment  however sadly all previous subjects had passed away once the experiment  had began, this time they were sure it was going to be a success.

Once the subjects were restrained,  five lab workers stood next to a machine that connected to the implanted  tubes on the subjects with syringes containing the remnant extraction. Once  given the go ahead, the workers injected the subjects sequentially and stood back  waiting to watch the results.

The remnant travelled from the syringe into the machine and then through the tubes straight into the subjects artificial organ, their adrenaline rushed and the workers witnessed the subjects twitching and panicking as they felt the remnant entering their bodies, for a  second, the experiment was working! The subjects were handling the remnant just as predicted… And then it stopped.

The subjects started screaming in pain, their eyes started to bleed and the pupils almost vanished. They pulled harder and harder on the restraints until they snapped and they fell to the floor, the screams were unbearable and it even made some workers ears pop and cause pain. The subjects started to experience extreme bone growth, their teeth started to spit and stab through both flesh and bone, their claws also split and started to dig backwards into their fingers, their wings rose up their back, causing excruciating pain as the bones rubbed against their shoulder blades. In the fury and rage of the pain they were experiencing they started to tear things apart, clawing at walls, floors and even
themselves, the workers started to run out of the room sounding an alarm but before the
security door could close, the subjects ripped it apart and rampaged through the building, killing workers and destroying machinery, computers and security systems. In the rampage the scientists decided to put the lab into evacuation and shut down. During the pain one of the subjects tore the tubes straight out of themselves trying to stop the
remnant, however in doing so, made them collapse to the floor unconscious. The lab was
ordered to set the building on fire to ensure the subjects wouldn’t escape and to burn all
evidence of the lab. Many workers escaped before the building collapsed on itself, bringing anyone left down with it and the fire burning up anything that was left… or so they thought.

All of the subjects managed to survive the collapse of the building however became trapped and the fumes of the smoke killed all but one of them, subject ‘000’ .The subject woke up a couple days later, the pain of what was called the evolution meltdown still strong and it struggled to get up, the rubble and dust from the collapse covered it, head to toe, mixed with the blood leaking from the wounds that it had encountered. After struggles, the subject managed to get up, still in pain it started to try and find an escape… to no avail, the creature hobbled around the destroyed lab and eventually came across the other four subjects, horrified to find them all dead from what it believed was the pain but what really was the smoke. In a panic the subject thought that the evolution meltdown was going to trigger again and kill them, it found some tools and ripped out all of its teeth and
claws, a mixture of blood and tears puddled onto the floor where again, the creature collapsed. The subjects were made to be quite intelligent which was very beneficial to the subjects survival as the evolution meltdown did come back, causing its teeth to grow rapidly however not as violently, with some tools the subject managed to mould their teeth to be more tolerable whilst removing any stray teeth, in doing this, the subject
was left with an almost forced smile however the ability to slightly retract its teeth for short amounts of time.

The remaining subject survived for a few weeks through eating what was left of human remains and edible items that weren’t burnt to dust, the creature also kept trying to revive its fellow subjects, being within an enclosed space meant that decomposition was extremely slow however despite the efforts, they were dead and couldn’t be revived. The subject soon ran out of food and after two months from being trapped in the debris
of the lab, began to starve. Its stomach grumbled and the subject began to curl up in pain from starvation, not wanting to eat its fellow subjects due to the horrors the creatures had already suffered and not wanting to become a cannibal.
The subject began to loose its mind and driven into a fever of needing food caused it to devour the dead subject for its own survival, going against its one rule it didn’t want to break. After having eaten them, the subject fell to the floor, its mind broken from the pain and guilt with the confusion for
why it exists to live with this pain. The subject became silent and huddled into a dark room alone, holding a claw left from each of its ‘friends’ that it couldn’t save.

Whether it was the creature going insane or just a dream, another creature entered the room with them, it promised to give the subject the strength to escape its prison for something in return, although it is unknown what the creature wanted in return, the deal was made and the subject managed to gather the strength to find a way to escape, taking four small claws with it and seeking both answers for its existence and revenge for the pain and suffering.

The subject eventually came to commission a lab of its own, being given the name MUTE by a new partner scientist which removed its wings that were causing it pain and vowed to help it get its resolve in the way of remaking project ;753  through a new species, known now as Smiling Dragons due to their natural smile. The first four were created using MUTE’s DNA and DNA taken from the claws of the other subjects now called Pretypes. The first four made were given the name of Prototypes and were the testers of the species, through some more editing, the species grew to be stronger and more developed with even some rare smiling dragons named alphas being created that had perfect DNA structures. MUTE now confines himself within the new lab, avoiding the smiling dragons to avoid triggering memories from his past or hurting others in random fits of rage from his trauma. He doesn’t talk or trust anyone apart from the one human that vowed to protect him.
